Literature Text
She was artsy.
She was odd.
She was a victim of the mob.
No one liked her.
No one cared.
They'd make fun or sit and stare.
She didn't cry.
She didn't fight.
She just let them take her rights.
A month went on,
And then one more.
All of their ridicules, alone she bore.
It all built up,
Until one night.
The "bulb" went off- she saw false light.
She chose her fate,
Then and there.
No one would miss her, since no one cared.

Depression
Lay down your right to be human.
Put on a dazzling smile so that no one can see your pain.
You hide it all so well, but underneath your shirt you can still feel the scars.
No one knows what it is like to be you.
Your smile is but one in a billion,
A mask that you wear to ward off the questions.
Your scars are your war paint,
But this is a losing battle.
You are sent to face the demons all alone, though they will never leave your side.
So keep that pretty smile steady,
And don't let one tear drop from those stormy eyes.
Put on your war paint and go out into the world, where your smile makes you just like them.

Suicide
Its the cowards way out,
But Im so tired of being strong.
Its hard living everyday,
Wanting only to break down.
Its a sin says mom,
Its an illness says dad.
And my little baby brother,
Cant help but give a frown.
I want to be perfect,
Someone people like.
But Im such a tangled mess,
That cant do anything right.
Pills will fix the problem,
Says my best friend one day.
But I wonder if she knows
What I think of every night.
I dont have marks on my arms,
And I havent tried a million times.
But I look at every knife and ledge,
And lake wanting to drown.

What Mental Illness Feels Like
It feels like you're a prisoner
In your own mind
Holding you hands up to your
Looking glass eyes
But not able to escape
It feels like being close to yourself
All the time
But not knowing who you are
Wanting to get close to others
But terrified of letting them in
It feels like wanting to kill all your emotions
So you don't hurt anymore
It feels like the physical pain you cause yourself
Just to kill all the pain
You hold buried inside
It feels like starving your body
Because you feel like a bad person
And like you need to be punished
For all the things you've done - past and present
That those around you say weren't your faul

I wrote this about a girl who is tormented and teased at school until she reaches her breaking point and commits suicide. No, I am not suicidal. I wrote this because there are so many stories about kids committing suicide these days, and I think we all need to consider why this is happening; my criminology class talked about this last week, and we read a story about a boy who was picked on until he finally hung himself in his closet one night. We need to be thinking about how we treat others, and how our words, actions, and body language can affect other people more than we'd ever imagine. Next time you are getting ready to say something rude, unfriendly, discouraging, or in any way unkind, think about what may be at stake....

This almost sounds like my life during middle school. Eerie.
